We have all faced fear. Sometimes it’s logical. Most of the time it’s not.
The last two days have been full of fear. My dogs are scared of the New Year’s fireworks. My son found joy in them at first, but after a minor burn learned a little something about playing with fire.
The thing is that no matter how much I try to comfort them, no matter what arguments I use, there is no way they can comprehend my logic.
Beyond the fact that kids and dogs don’t think like I do, I realized that in the midst of fear, logic rarely makes it go away.
Fear is emotion.
It is deep and it lingers.
To defeat it, we must face it.
We must engage it.
When it surrounds us we can battle it.
When it is only in our minds, far off and menacing…it gets to win.
I’m going into battle against fear in 2014.
Are you?
